PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
November 2 2026 to November 8 2026

Monday November 2

Today is All Souls' Day, a Christian tradition celebrating the lives and memories of those who've gone before us. It's also the final day of Día de los Muertos, when Mexico honours its loved ones with colourful, joyful traditions. Both these observances recognise the importance of our past connections, and remind us that our lives and personalities are shaped by a mix of inherited quirks and shared experiences. It's the perfect day to celebrate the important relationships in your world.

In 1952, frozen bread went on sale in New York. It might not be one of humanity's greatest inventions, but it had a significant impact: no more stale bread - so (at the very least) it led to a reduction in food waste. The best innovations aren't always dazzling. Often, they just make ordinary life easier. And the same applies to our own ideas. Today, don't dismiss a small change because it seems unremarkable. If it solves a problem, it could be the best thing since sliced bread!

When archaeologist Howard Carter's team discovered the entrance to Tutankhamun's tomb (in 1922), they found treasures that had been hidden for more than 3,000 years. Today's cosmic climate holds a similar (if less dramatic) sense of discovery. As the Sun converges with Mercury, ideas and information are illuminated, while the Venus/Jupiter link encourages us to recognise opportunities. We might not uncover a golden mask or priceless artefact, but exciting discoveries are possible.

Bonfires Tonight
|
|
Across the UK tonight, bonfires will blaze and fireworks will fill the sky as people mark the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Yet if celebrating a centuries-old failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament seems odd, Bonfire Night has become a joyful time of gathering, sharing food, and watching darkness explode into colour. In the legacy of the Sun/Mercury and Venus/Jupiter links, we don't need fireworks to create sparks of joy. A little warmth can light up lives.
