PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

May 30 2022 to June 5 2022

Monday May 30

Partygate

As we've seen with 'Partygate', establishing facts is only a part of any story - it's what we do with the information that counts. With Mercury retrograde for a few more days, it's still proving hard to identify problems and get to the bottom of tricky situations. But at least the Gemini New Moon helps shine clarity into confusion. And, thanks to the Mars/Jupiter convergence, confidence is starting to regrow. It's time to move on from missteps and mistakes, and find courage in our convictions.

Keep the Shadows Behind You

With the Moon dark in the sky, my thoughts turn to words attributed to the poet Walt Whitman: 'Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you'. Except, upon investigation, he wrote no such thing! Which perfectly describes the effects of today's Saturn/Neptune link as it reveals inconvenient truths that undermine perfection. Yet no matter who wrote these words, their sentiment remains valid. Honest communication takes us forwards and leaves darkness behind.

Oscar the Grouch

You don't grow up with my name without being aware of a grumpy green monster who lives in a trash can on Sesame Street! Today is both Marilyn Monroe and Oscar the Grouch's birthday - which is almost ironic given what's taking place in the skies: Saturn's making the second of three uneasy links with glamorous Neptune. Actually, the real irony is that, despite my namesake, I'm an optimist. I know that when we show empathy rather than antipathy, uncomfortable situations can be resolved.

Platinum Jubilee

Today's an extra bank holiday in the UK, as we spend a long weekend honouring the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It's been a tough few years for Her Maj, with both tragedy and controversy playing their part. But even for people who find the concept of royalty slightly outmoded, it's hard not to be impressed by the Queen's commitment to her role, her quiet dignity and diligence. With Mercury about to turn direct, the image she presents, and the message this represents, will be greatly appreciated.

Friday June 3

Saturn Retrograde

As Saturn slows to turn retrograde this weekend, the planet of hard work and commitment aligns with Mars (courage, drive and impatience). For anyone trying to get something completed quickly, this could prove frustrating. But for those of us in the UK enjoying a long weekend to mark 70 years of the Queen's reign, it's the perfect time for a break! And, even if progress slows down to a frustrating pace, we're on the right track. Mercury turning direct promises things will soon start going to plan.

Your Weekly Horoscope

Created in the heyday of the industrial revolution, the UK's network of canals remains culturally vital and, as Tom Kitching's blog describes, it provides a home to people searching for alternative, cheaper places to live. Canals are defined by their system of locks: gates that trap water at different points of elevation allowing boats to travel uphill. As Saturn turns retrograde and links to Mars this week, it might slow progress down. But, when we face barriers, we can find innovative ways to move forwards... and up.
