PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

May 19 2008 to May 25 2008

Monday May 19
Full Moon

The Moon is full. That explains it all. The dramas that arose over the weekend, the arguments that remain unresolved today. The minor matters which are starting to seem so major and the increased emotion we can all feel. It's not just any old full moon, either. Due to unusual celestial circumstances, it's full in the same sign as it was last month. No wonder some of us feel as if we've been dealing with the same issues for ages. The Full Moon 'completes' in the early hours of tomorrow [GMT 2.11AM*]. After that, we should all feel a little better.

Tuesday May 20
UFO

There has lately been talk, in my neck of the woods, about UFOs. Some still insist there's no such thing. Others suspect that in earlier times, when aliens wanted to talk to humans, they appeared as "faerie folk". Hence pixies, brownies, leprechauns and maybe even giants. I saw a UFO once. Clear as day. It was out above the bush in Queensland. I didn't see the occupants, just the craft. But why should any of that be so strange? Aren't you and I just visiting Earth, temporarily adopting human guise before returning to our own mysterious place of origin?

I will be speaking in the late afternoon on Sunday June 1 at the Sunrise Celebration near Yeovilton, Somerset. If you'd like to come along, click here.

Wednesday May 21
Illuminatus

People often ask me how much worse the world is going to get. They point to all the doom and gloom, the natural disasters, the man-made problems plus the inhumanity we keep seeing. They say, "Every time I watch the news, I despair." But much of this is just because there is more news than there was. A dark room looks tidy. When you turn the light on, the first thing you see is what a mess it is in. But once you can see a problem, you can finally start to do something about it.

Thursday May 22
Dalai Lama

In his land, the Dalai Lama is like the Queen. He's head of state... and of the church. Or rather, in everywhere but his land. In Tibet itself, the Chinese government have declared him an enemy whose name must not be mentioned. And where nobody really expects the Queen to be a religious authority or to make the laws, the Dalai Lama is seen as a kind of living god. To me he's most interesting because, according to ancient tradition, his big decisions must be made by consulting oracles, reading signs, entering trances and using various forms of 'divination'.

Friday May 23
Dream

Dear Jonathan,
I dreamed I was holding a baby. We were both being shaken. After it stopped, the baby had grown old. When I woke, I heard about the earthquake in China. I must have been having this dream at that moment. It is still giving me the chills.
Lorraine

Dear Lorraine,
It could just be that a part of you is finding it ever harder to protect something (or someone) vulnerable. Or it could have been a genuine experience of unconscious empathy. Either way, this dream is about your sensitivity. There was nothing any of us could do about what happened in China or Burma... but simply by caring and sparing those people some feeling, we buck the trends of selfishness and insularity that spoil the world for everyone.

Saturday May 24
Your Weekend

Mercury's change of direction is one of the most important astrological event of the week. This time it is standing still in the sign of Gemini. Soon, it will retrace its steps through this sensitive sector of the sky. The event has, of course, special relevance to Geminis. Mercury rules their sign, and it is in their sign. Virgos are Mercurial too. All of us, though, regardless of when we were born, will feel the influence. Delays with transport, difficulties with communication, strange and sudden fluctuations in commercial markets and arguments over education are some of the traditional manifestations of retrograde Mercury. Despite its negative reputation, though, it can be very much a force for good.
